Un/Re-seen / Ne/Re-văzut is a new media art project initiated in July 2024 by Asociația Narative, with support from the Center for Projects of the Municipality of Timișoara, exhibited at the City Celebration, the Central University Library “Eugen Todoran” in Timișoara, The West University of Timișoara and the Triade Garden by The Triade Foundation.
The project employs augmented reality technology to create 3 art installations that unveil hidden narratives within public spaces, aiming to foster an emotional connection between residents and these transitional urban areas. The “invisible” layer comprises stories documented from various oral history archives, including the 2024 documentation of “Uzdinuz Alive” produced by Prin Banat and the archive coordinated by Smaranda Vultur and hosted by the Central University Library “Eugen Todoran” in Timișoara in partnership with the “Lumi la intersecții / Worlds at Crossroards” project of the Narative Association.
An interdisciplinary team — comprising of multimedia artist Cinty Ionescu who curated and documented the stories included in these installations, illustrator and animator Ioana Nicoară, and sound designers Makunouchi Bento (Valentin Toma and Felix Petrescu) — has developed digital installations integrating sound, imagery, and animation. These installations translate personal histories and collective memory, integral to the intangible cultural heritage of Timișoara, into public art pieces.
The installations are accessible via participants’ mobile devices through a free app available for both iOS/Android. Users can experience the augmented reality works by pointing their device cameras at specific images displayed in public spaces.
